Manuela Boatcă, geb. 1975 in Bukarest, ist Professorin für Soziologie mit dem Schwerpunkt Sozialstruktur und Globalisierung an der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg und leitet dort das interdisziplinäre Masterprogramm Global Studies (in Zusammenarbeit mit University of Cape Town, FLACSO Argentina, Jawaharlal Nehru University Delhi and Chulalongkorn University Bangkok). Sie hat Anglistik und Germanistik an der Universität Bukarest studiert und an der KU Eichstätt-Ingolstadt in Soziologie promoviert. Sie hat längere Lehr- und Forschungsaufenthalte in Brasilien, den USA und Rumänien absolviert und war von 2012 bis 2015 Professorin für die Soziologie globaler Ungleichheiten am Lateinamerika-Institut der FU Berlin.
Ihre Arbeiten zu globalen Ungleichheiten, Weltsystemanalyse, post- und dekolonialen Perspektiven, Gender in Moderne/Kolonialität und zur Geopolitik des Wissens in „Ost“Europa und „Latein“America ist im Journal of World-Systems Research, Cultural Studies, South Atlantic Quarterly, Political Power and Social Theory, Berliner Journal für Soziologie, Österreichische Zeitschrift für Soziologie, Zeitschrift für Weltgeschichte, Theory, Culture and Society und Current Sociology erschienen.

Manuela Boatcă, born in Bucharest in 1975, is Professor of Sociology with a focus on social structure and globalization at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, where she directs the interdisciplinary Master’s program in Global Studies (in cooperation with University of Cape Town, FLACSO Argentina, Jawaharlal Nehru University Delhi and Chulalongkorn University Bangkok). She studied English and German language and literature at the University of Bucharest and holds a PhD in sociology from KU Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. She has spent extended periods of teaching and research in Brazil, the U.S., and Romania, and was Professor of the Sociology of Global Inequalities at the Latin America Institute of the FU Berlin from 2012 to 2015.
Her work on global inequalities, world-systems analysis, post- and decolonial perspectives, gender in modernity/coloniality, and the geopolitics of knowledge in „Eastern“ Europe and „Latin“ America has appeared in the Journal of World-Systems Research, Cultural Studies, South Atlantic Quarterly, Political Power and Social Theory, Berliner Journal für Soziologie, Österreichische Zeitschrift für Soziologie, Zeitschrift für Weltgeschichte, Theory, Culture and Society, and Current Sociology.
