Sérgio Costa studierte Soziologie und Wirtschaftswissenachften in Brasilien und Deutschland. Seit 2008 ist er Professor für Soziologie an der Freien Universität Berlin. Seine Publikations- und Forschungsschwerpunkte sind soziale Ungleichheiten, Conviviality und Sozialtheorie, insbesondere postkoloniale Theorien. Er ist the Herausgeber der Reihe Entangled Inequalities: Exploring Global Asymmetries (Routledge) und Sprecher des Mecila: Maria Sybilla Merian Centre Conviviality-Inequality in Latin America sowie Mitglied der DFG-Graduiertenkollege Minor Cosmpolitanisms und Zwischen Räumen.

Sérgio Costa studied sociology and economics in Brazil and Germany. He has been a professor of sociology at the Free University of Berlin since 2008. His publications and research focus on social inequalities, conviviality and social theory, especially postcolonial theories. He is the editor of the series Entangled Inequalities: Exploring Global Asymmetries (Routledge) and spokesperson for the Mecila: Maria Sybilla Merian Centre – Conviviality-Inequality in Latin America as well as a member of the DFG Research Training Groups Minor Cosmpolitanisms and Between Spaces.
