Ich habe Soziologie, Politikwissenschaften und Romanistik (frankophone und lateinamerikanische Studien) an der Universität Frankfurt, Deutschland, der Université Lumière II, Lyon und Quito, Ecuador, studiert. Vor meiner Berufung nach Gießen auf den Lehrstuhl für Soziologie war ich Senior Lecturer für Transkulturelle Studien in der Abteilung für spanische, portugiesische und lateinamerikanische Studien an der Universität Manchester, UK, und wissenschaftliche Assistentin für Soziologie am Institut für Soziologie der Universität Hamburg. Außerdem arbeitete ich als Forschungskoordinatorin und Dozentin an der Internationalen Frauenuniversität (IFU) in Hannover, Deutschland. Außerdem wurde ich eingeladen, Masterkurse an anderen Universitäten in Deutschland, den Vereinigten Staaten, Brasilien, Schweden, Finnland, der Schweiz, Österreich, Australien, Spanien und Trinidad & Tobago zu halten.
In meiner Lehre und Forschung beschäftige ich mich mit Fragen globaler Ungleichheiten und ihrer lokalen Ausprägung, insbesondere in Deutschland, Spanien und dem Vereinigten Königreich. Darüber hinaus interessiere ich mich für postmarxistische und dekoloniale Perspektiven auf feministische und queere Epistemologie und ihre Anwendung auf die Bereiche Migration, Arbeit und Kultur. In diesem Zusammenhang interessiere ich mich für affektive Arbeit/Materialitäten, institutionellen Rassismus, rassischen Kapitalismus und die Kolonialität der Migration.
Derzeit bin ich Vorsitzende der Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung in der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Soziologie, Mitglied des Rates für Migration und des ESA (European Sociology Association) Academic Board des RN32 ‚Sociology of Migration‘. Außerdem bin ich Principal Investigator an der Graduate School of the Study of Culture (GCSC) der Justus-Liebig-Universität und Mitglied des Beirats von Wagadu. einer Zeitschrift für transnationale Frauen- und Geschlechterstudien und der Forschungsgruppe Migration und Menschenrechte.

I studied Sociology, Political Sciences and Romance Studies (Francophone and Latin American Studies) at the University of Frankfurt, Germany, Université Lumière II, Lyon and Quito, Ecuador. Previous to my appointment in Giessen as Chair in Sociology, I was a Senior Lecturer in Transcultural Studies in the Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies Department at the University of Manchester, UK and an Assistant Professor (wissenschaftliche Assistentin) in Sociology in the Institute of Sociology at the University of Hamburg. I also worked as a research coordinator and lecturer at the International Women’s University (IFU) in Hanover, Germany. Further, I have been also invited to conduct master’s classes in other universities in Germany, the United States, Brazil, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Austria, Australia, Spain and Trinidad & Tobago.
My teaching and research engage with questions of global inequalities and their local articulation particularly in Germany, Spain and the UK. Further, I am interested in post/Marxist and decolonial perspectives on feminist and queer epistemology and their application to the field of migration, labour and culture. Within this context, I am interested in affective labour/materialities, institutional racism, racial capitalism and the coloniality of migration.
Currently I am the Chair of the Women and Gender Studies in the German Sociology Association, member of the Rat für Migration (Council of Migration) and the ESA (European Sociology Association) Academic Board of RN32 ‘Sociology of Migration’. Further, I am a Principal Investigator at the Graduate School of the Study of Culture (GCSC), Justus-Liebig-University, a member of the advisory board of Wagadu. A journal of transnational Women and Gender Studies and the Research Group Migration and Human Rights.
